Working Principle of the Hydraulic Cutting System
The hydraulic cutting system of a fully automatic color steel roll forming machine is designed to cut formed roofing sheets accurately according to the preset length. It normally consists of a hydraulic pump station, hydraulic motor, oil tank, control valves, hydraulic cylinder, cutting blades, pipelines, and electrical control components.
During operation, the steel coil is continuously fed through the roll forming section. An encoder or length-measuring device detects the actual sheet length and sends a signal to the PLC control system. When the preset length is reached, the PLC sends a cutting command. The hydraulic pump supplies pressurized oil to the cylinder, driving the cutting mechanism to complete the shearing action. After cutting, the hydraulic valve changes direction, allowing the cylinder to return to its original position and prepare for the next cycle.
Automatic Length Control and Cutting
The PLC coordinates sheet feeding, length measurement, forming speed, and hydraulic cutting, allowing the machine to operate continuously with limited manual intervention.
The cutting blade should match the roofing profile to ensure clean and accurate cutting without excessive deformation. Cutting length can be programmed through the control panel according to production requirements.
Hydraulic System Maintenance
Regular inspection of the hydraulic system is essential for stable cutting performance. Check the hydraulic oil level, oil quality, pipelines, fittings, valves, pump, and cylinder regularly.
Hydraulic oil should be replaced according to the manufacturer's maintenance schedule and operating conditions. Contaminated or deteriorated oil may increase component wear and cause unstable hydraulic pressure.
Cutting Blade Maintenance
The cutting blades are critical wear components. Inspect the blade edges regularly for wear, damage, deformation, or incorrect alignment. A damaged or improperly installed blade may produce rough cutting edges and increase the load on the hydraulic system.
Keep the blade assembly clean and properly secured. When replacement is necessary, use a blade with suitable material, dimensions, and profile compatibility.
Electrical and Control System Inspection
The PLC, encoder, sensors, solenoid valves, and wiring should be inspected periodically. Check whether the length-measuring signal is stable and accurate. If the cutting length becomes inconsistent, first inspect the encoder installation, wiring, sensor signals, and PLC parameters.
Troubleshooting and Safety
If the hydraulic cutter fails to operate, check the power supply, hydraulic oil level, system pressure, valve operation, cylinder movement, and control signals step by step. Do not repeatedly force the system to operate when abnormal pressure, leakage, vibration, or noise is present.
Before maintenance, stop the machine, disconnect the power supply, and release stored hydraulic pressure where applicable. Maintenance should be performed by qualified personnel following the equipment manufacturer's safety procedures.
Key Maintenance Practices
Proper hydraulic maintenance includes regular oil inspection, leakage prevention, filter maintenance, blade inspection, cylinder checking, electrical testing, and fastener tightening. A systematic maintenance routine helps maintain accurate cutting performance, reduce unexpected downtime, and extend the service life of the automatic roll forming machine.
